How to start a walking challenge with your colleagues on WeWard

WeWard makes launching a free walking challenge easy through its Communities feature. This article provides motivational message templates to help drive participation and impact.
Starting a walking challenge with WeWard Communities is quick, easy and 100% free! Are you the challenge organizer? Download the WeWard app on your phone, go to the Social tab, then Communities and click on the Create button. Then, you just have to follow these steps!
Make your Community clear and attractive
Step 1: Pick a name that stands out
Give your Community a purpose-driven name that hints at your mission. For instance, "[Company] Summer Walking Challenge".
Step 2: Write a punchy and clear description
Explain how participants can contribute and what’s at stake. You’re free to define your own rules, but most companies choose one (or both) of these popular formats:
• Donate to a charity: link your employees’ efforts to a meaningful goal. You can match a collective step goal with a donation to a charity. For example, "10 million collective steps will unlock a $5,000 donation to [Charity]" (in this case, contact the charity of your choice to set-up the donation in advance - it will be out of the app and at the company's expense).
• Reward the best walkers: motivate participants through friendly competition. Offer prizes like gift cards, branded goodies, or unique experiences to the best-performing individuals or teams. You will have access to a live step rankings in your Community - customize it to display by team or by individual.
Step 3: Turn off the Wards collection
If your challenge is short or involves only a small group of employees, the total amount of Wards collected might stay below the minimum cash-out threshold (20,000 Wards).
To avoid any confusion or frustration among participants, we recommend disabling the Wards collection.
Step 4: Add a strong visual
Choose a landscape layout banner image (1125 x 540 px recommended) that’s clear, colorful, and captures your mission. For example, a photo of your team or a photo of the cause you choose to support.
Step 5: Create teams
Add a fun, healthy dose of competition by forming teams: by department, by region, or by affinity! As admin, you can only define the team names. Each member of your community can then join the team of their choice.
Invite your colleagues to join
Click on the share button in your Community and invite others to join your community by sharing your unique link on your usual channel - emails, WhatsApp or internal messaging tool. You have no limits on members.
