The Problem: Finding a Fun, High-Impact Way to make a difference for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, URSA France was looking for a way to mobilize its employees across sites for their occupational Health and Safety Week.

With 190 employees spread across a headquarters, an industrial site, and a dispersed sales force, creating something inclusive, engaging, and easy to deploy nationwide often proved difficult.

Their existing well-being activities (webinars, fruit baskets, osteopathy sessions, massages, etc.) were appreciated and frequent, however:

• Employees located on different sites were rarely able to participate collectively

• They needed an activity with an easy and self-serve set-up that required minimal logistics and zero additional budget

We wanted an app based on steps, not running or kilometers, so that everyone could participate - simple to use and able to engage teams on all our sites.

Aimeline Marsura, Communication Project Manager

Why and how they used WeWard

By leveraging WeWard, URSA France was able to launch a Breast Cancer Awareness Month step challenge directly in-app in just a few steps, allowing employees to:

• Engage in a friendly, company-wide competition with prizes for the 3 best walkers and the 3 best teams, along with a pink t-shirt for every participant

• Unlocking a donation to La Ligue contre le Cancer tied to a collective step goal:

       • 10 million steps = €2,500 donation

       • 20 million steps = €5,000 donation

How they implemented it:

• Created a branded private WeWard step challenge self-serve in the app for free

• Invited employees through URSA’s internal social network and QR code on-site

• Tracked step rankings and collective stats toward the 20-million-step goal in real time in the app

Results and takeaways

From day one, the challenge sparked genuine enthusiasm across all teams and URSA’s employees collectively walked 22.3 million steps in 6 weeks. They even extend the challenge in order to reach the 20 million step goal and unlock the €5,000 donation.

“This challenge really encouraged employees to walk more: the leader of the rankings was walking one hour every morning and evening to maximize her step count. The challenge motivated both the competitors and the ones concerned by the breast cancer cause.”

Aimeline Marsura, Communication Project Manager

This momentum also strengthened URSA’s employer brand by fostering stronger team spirit and helping employees build healthier lifestyle habits.

Results at a glance

• 22.3 million steps in 6 weeks

• 52% participation rate

• 8 teams created

• 2.8 t CO₂ saved, more emissions than from 2 round trip flights Paris - NYC
